A pioneering startup headquartered in Finland, with a diverse team spanning over 5 countries. At Olioil, we’re on the cusp of revolutionizing the fight against oceanic oil spills through an innovative robotic solution, currently undergoing the patent process. Our approach integrates cutting-edge AI and satellite technology, culminating in a multinational collaboration of experts and universities.
Our dynamic team boasts a spectrum of talents, from clean tech professors and ESG specialists to robotics engineers and seasoned entrepreneurs with a robust background in international business development. Complemented by legal, marketing, and IT professionals, we’ve assembled a comprehensive lineup of expertise to drive our mission forward.
Born out of extensive academic research conducted between 2018 and 2022 across Nordic universities, our project fills a crucial gap identified in the field. The findings were unequivocal: the absence of an easily maintainable, cost-effective, technically innovative, and rapid-response solution for oil spill emergencies at sea. Enter Olioil – poised to develop and deploy precisely such a solution.

Estonian Stenweld OÜ invests in OliOil with Business Finland.
Stenweld OÜ mainly operates in Germany selling aluminum and steel products, established in 2015 as a subcontractor with the existing partnership of a network of subcontractors in Tallinn and other parts of Estonia. The investment will strongly support OliOil’s operational start in the Baltic region and give the capacity to start a pilot project that Business Finland partly funds.

OliOil office is open in Denmark.
Eric Ariel Rimón-Mazig has started as our Country Manager to activate the local operations with the Danish maritime and finance. Eric has experience running various EU and international projects with the ELY center in Finland & The EU. EIFO is the international green public funding by the Danish national organizations, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and attracting international talents and companies to Denmark.

Mr. Markku Mylly has joined OliOil as an External Board Advisor
Mr Mylly also gained significant experience in cooperation projects in various European countries. He was involved in several EU twinning projects aiming to help beneficiary countries develop modern and efficient administrations. He acted as project leader in several projects in Bulgaria, Croatia, and Estonia. While at the FMA, Mr Mylly was appointed as the Finnish representative to EMSA’s Administrative Board and held this position from 2005 to 2009. He was nominated to the position of Executive Director of EMSA in 2012.

Elina Kanerva joined the OliOil team in Finland
” Every year, oil spills destroy more than 2,700 million liters of our oceans. I have taken a concrete step by being part of a start-up company born at LUT University and its School of Engineering over the last couple of years.
OliOil is ready to fix this major environmental and social problem. I am familiar with the subject and our goal at OliOil is to be a pioneer in ocean conservation. There are oil spills at sea every 15 minutes and we must ensure that they do not ruin our nature anymore.
The OliOi.iO startup is at the forefront of maritime oil transport safety thanks to robotics and AI. The project is an unparalleled way to ensure the sustainability of our environment. “My day job is still as an IT specialist but I feel that nature conservation is important and that’s why I’m involved with my small effort.” Says Elina.
